2012: Part 5

The London Philharmonic Orchestra neatly rounded off the summer with an outdoor performance at the Royal Academy at the beginning of September. The weather, unkind as it had been all year, held off for once and some great music was heard for the first time in the courtyard of the RA. Richard Mallett produced the event from a technical point of view and was kind enough to contact us after the event: Thank you to one and all for a great sounding concert last Saturday at RA.  As ever, it was a pleasure working with you and the RNSS team.  I particularly enjoyed the violin piece, which was beautifully played and sounded amazing through the system.

Canary Wharf Art & Events team donned their water wings again this year and, yet again, provided those brave enough to face the weather with some great music. Production standards onsite are extraordinarily high and getting it right in the space is always a challenge, not least as we can’t sound check live till after the offices close down for the day. The reward comes when, however bad the weather, several thousand people gathered on the park are mesmerised by the performance onstage.

In the midst of this we bought and refurbished a large warehouse in Ipswich to strengthen our presence in the area and provide much need storage and workshop space for all the extra equipment bought this year. It was ready just in time for Folk East at the end of August. Our long standing relationship with BT at Adastral Park and TM Services, our sister company who handle everything we don’t, required that we provide better facilities and simply more space. Before the building had even been finished Rite Digital, the Philharmonia’s digital arm moved in to refurbish two of their multi media projects and we’ve had to start careful layout planning as we realised quite how much equipment needs to live there. That said, the pressure has been taken off the Waterloo warehouse that should make preps much easier and give the warehouse team if not actually enough room to swing a cat at least enough room to feed a dog.

On that subject, sad to say Josh, our old Leonberger passed away in September and is sorely missed by us all. Theo, the younger Leonberger is doing his best to take up the floor space normally occupied by two. Perhaps reinforcements may be needed in the near future….
