2012: Part 3

We were fortunate to support the Barbican in the first ever Back to Black festival at Old Billingsgate. That stunning venue played host to the some of the greatest artistes from South America and Africa. Gilberto Gill topped the bill in more ways than one but this takes nothing away from the many artistes performing over the two days. The Festival has been running in Rio for several years and the team pulled off the tricky feat of transposing it to London without losing its identity or aims.

In May we were asked to handle the sound for the LSO’s performance on Trafalgar Square. BMW sponsored the event, which was the first of a series in great European cities. As Richard says: For me this was one of the highlights of my career, let alone the year. I was lucky enough to be able to put a team together some of the finest sound engineers I know. They effortlessly delivered a first class sound system on time and we were then able to focus entirely on what is really important- the music- rather than the kit. It is always an honour to work with the LSO and I cannot describe the feeling of standing in the middle of Trafalgar Square, unable to move for the crowds but able to call the tiniest of detailed changes through to the control team and hear them enacted. There is no better feeling than the moment you realise you can’t hear the equipment; there is just the music.
